Assignment 4: Dr. Dre and the Deep Note
Dr. Dre was, after the release of his album 2001, was accused by THX, an affiliate of Lucasfilm, that their famous Deep Note, the sonic boom sound you hear when you see a movie with THX sound, was used without the permission of THX or Lucasfilm. The song in question, the first song on Dre's album, called Lolo, began with, allegedly, THX's Deep Note. Andre Young, Dr. Dre's real name, had requested permission from Lucasfilm, but it had been denied. Did Dre really steal the use of this track, or is Lucasfilm just being too picky? Go to www.benedict.com/Audio/Dre/Dre, compare the 2 tracks, and see for yourself.
